I’m about 8-9 weeks now and my tummy has started popping out.
According to the many various pregnancy blogs online this isn’t supposed to happen until at least the 12-week mark, and even then (according to mum’s on Instagram) their bump is miniscule.
So, what’s the deal here?
I usually wake up quite bloated, but instead of the usual soft tummy that you can easily poke in mine is rock hard .
During the day it tends to subside, only to balloon again by the late afternoon.
It’s a strange situation to deal with. I am yet to tell work about my pregnancy but with my tummy gradually popping out I feel a little bit silly constantly wearing baggy clothes in an attempt to hide it.
I also don’t feel I have a right to ‘show off’ my bump as yet because hey, is it even a bump? Or is it just bloat?
Also not helping are the barrage of photos that flood social media showing women who proclaim to be 8, 9, 10 weeks pregnant and yet their tummy is totally flat.
What kind of anxiety can I call this? I mean, I can’t really pretend not to have a bump – it’s not as if I can pull it in anyway. But am I something of a fraud by embracing the bloat and the bump before the bump really ‘pops’?
